Resumo

Magneto-resistive (MR) sensors have demonstrated to be key devices, as they are highly sensitive, have low-power consumptionand are easily embedded in more complex systems or even in conventional integrated circuit fabrication. Although impressive advances have been done in the past years regarding the drive, conditioning and acquisition of the MR sensor´s signals, several demanding challenges remain to be solved. This workplan addresses the scientific research still required to solve these issues in state-of-the-art MR sensors produced at INESC, and, simultaneously, the application of the research results towards the development of a miniaturized, ultra-precise electronic platform, sufficiently general to be used in almost all applications requiring driving and acquisition of MR sensor signals. This platform will feature beyond-state-of-the-art novel characteristics like automatic calibration and digital signal processing algorithms for noise mitigation and signal enhancement.
