Abstract

10.2 Summary in English for general dissemination purposes CeiED is an R&D Centre that brings together researchers in Education, Museology, and Urbanism. The added value of CeiED stems from an innovative synthesis between the R&D interests of researchers with different backgrounds – education sociologists and psychologists, pedagogues, historians, urban planners, architects, geographers - but mutually linked to a common purpose of building knowledge that promotes Human Development and Social Justice. Education, Memory Studies and Territory are three fundamental dimensions of the economic, social and territorial cohesion objectives and of the fight against inequality and in favour of the respect for diversity. For this added value be achieved, particular attention has been given to the interdisciplinary dialogue among the scientific areas included in CeiED, which provides institutional conditions for researchers from different disciplines and academic cultures to share knowledge and ideas and to build teams that exceed a narrow discipline-bound approach. The CeiED Plan of Activities (2018-2022) presents the priorities for the presentation of interdisciplinary R&D projects to funding agencies, involving different thematic areas, among which, the 2nd National Study of Literacy, Portugal’s participation in the PISA and the role of transnational regulation, territorial education and democratic citizenship, the role of Museums, or schooling models and pedagogical innovation. The CeiED Plan to 2018-2022 also includes other relevant activities: (i) the consolidation of the Doctoral School (Education, Museology, and Urbanism), and its internationalization; (ii) a policy of Open Science with particular attention to the edition of journals, Revista Lusófona de Educação e Cadernos de Sociomuseologia; (iii) the restructuration of Experimental Lab for Education, Space, and Memories (L3EM), that aims to foster innovation at the crossroads of the disciplines of Education, Urban Planning and Development and Museology – in particular in their fields of non-formal education and training; (iv) the strengthening of the approach to the professional fields of work by monitoring and promoting processes of change and developing reflexivity in its actors; (v) the reinforcement of the cooperation with CES-U. Coimbra regarding the Op.Edu work and its influence in Portuguese society, and other national and international networks (Cyberparks, RIAIPE, GT CLACSO, ASTE, among others); (vi) the possibility of boosting a Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB) in the field of Education and Sustainable Development, and our contribution to scientific employment; and (vii) the implementation of the UNESCO Chair Education, Citizenship, and Cultural Diversity, and its ambitious commitments. CeiED adopts an inclusive orientation. Its have as key objective is to increase the scientific production of all members (including collaborators and PhD students) and to increase the linkage between teaching and learning activities, research and innovation. 10.3 Summary in English for evaluation CeiED is an R&D Unit with its origin in a centre for Education and Training that, after several years of joint projects, was joined by researchers in Museology, Urbanism, and Human Geography. The added value of CeiED stems from an innovative synthesis between the R&D interests of researchers with different backgrounds – education sociologists and psychologists, pedagogues, historians, urban planners, architects, geographers - but mutually linked to a common purpose of building knowledge that promotes Human Development and Social (and Cognitive) Justice. Education, Memory and Territory are three major dimensions for the economic, social and territorial cohesion objectives and of the fight against inequality and favouring the respect for diversity. To accomplish this added value, particular attention has been given to the interdisciplinary dialogue among the scientific areas, which provides institutional conditions for researchers from different disciplines and academic cultures to share knowledge and ideas and to build teams that exceed a narrow discipline-bound approach. The implementation of interdisciplinary projects, involving different thematic areas, will be central in CeiED activities in the period 2018-2022. In that sense, CeiED has the following priorities for the production of knowledge: 1. To conduct the 2nd National Literacy Study, in consortium with CIES-IUL and the support of the National Education Council and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. This study will be carried out 25 years after the first study conducted in Portugal using a methodology for the direct evaluation of the literacy (reading, writing and calculation) of adults (15-64 years) (Benavente et al., 1996). 2. To develop tools to evaluate the transnational regulation of education policies, and organize a research project about Portugal's participation in PISA, presented by the OECD as a success case, with one of the most significant evolutions in results between 2006 and 2015. 3. To develop a multifaceted research agenda and to advance knowledge grounded on professional fields of work, namely teacher professionalism, processes of learning, pedagogical innovations, citizenship , educational stakeholders and territorial education. 4. To increase the role of Museums as service providers of Education, Culture, and Democratic Citizenship. 5. To develop news areas of R&D: Social Education and Gerontology, linking to the teaching activity of CeiED members. The Host Institution offers 3 PhD Programs accredited by A3ES in scientific areas covered by CeiED (Education, Museology, and Urban Studies). The main objective until 2022 is to strengthen the linkage between the research projects of the PhD students and the regular (and institutional) scientific activity of CeiED, to consolidate the demand and reinforce the internationalization of these PhD Programs. In this sense, the consolidation of CeiED Doctoral School is a priority as a locus of cooperation and mutual reinforcement. CeiED publishes two journals (RLE - Revista Lusófona de Educação, and Cadernos de Sociomuseologia), a book series on Edições Lusófonas de Educação, and electronic publications (Entretextos). Our main goal to this fundamental domain of scientific diffusion is to reinforce our presence, following the principles of the Open Science movement. CeiED develops Public Science related tothe production of knowledge, initiatives and modes of communication in the establishment of strong links with all partners in the CeiED’s areas of concern by providing them with tools to monitor and evaluate public policies. This is one of the dimensions that CeiED will pursue, specifically through the Observatory of Education and Training Policies (Op.Edu), and the Experimental Lab in Education, Space and Memory (L3EM), under the assumption that societies whose dynamics and mechanisms are becoming increasingly "invisible" cannot escape the analysis and the democratically informed participation of its citizens. The insertion of the CeiED institutionally and of its researchers individually in national and international networks has been one of the fulfilled orientations and will be further strengthened and diversified. Nationally, the CeiED is an institutional member of the Portuguese Society of Education Sciences (SPCE) and the coordinator of the Portuguese R&D Education Sciences Centres. Outside Education Sciences, CeiED has a permanent protocol with CES (U. Coimbra), and has prepared a consortium with CIES (ISCTE-IUL) to develop the 2nd National Literacy Study (18-74 years old). Within the framework of the new FCT guidelines, CeiED is pondering the possibility of boosting a Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB) in the field of Education and Sustainable Development. Internationally, CeiED is founder and coordinator of the RIAIPE Network (researchers from EU and LAC), and an institutional partner-member of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), and the European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA). CeiED will continue its active membership of the following International networks: International Association for Research on Textbooks and Educational Media (IARTEM); Latin American Network of Epistemological Education Study Policies (RELEPE); Network of Researchers on Unionism among Workers in Education (ASTE Network); Network of European Sociology of Education Journals; Cyberpark Network; and, Museums as Services Providers. CeiED maintains and will continue to implement a very important set of bilateral arrangements with a strong focus on R&D and advanced training, such as ISPEF - U. Lyon, France, Paulo Freire Institute at UCLA, U.S., and PIIE, Chile. CeiED was awarded a UNESCO UNITWIN Chair, Education, Citizenship, and Cultural Diversity, which has an important network of partners in Cape Verde and Brazil. The development of the ambitious R&D and training program envisaged in the UNESCO proposal is a priority for the period.
