Abstract
10.2 Summary in English for general dissemination purposes
Considering CIDTFF paths (www.ua.pt/cidtff), its distinctive epistemological framework& the societal challenges faced by contemporary societies, this plan of activities (PA) is anchored in the responsibility of research in education - contribute to educated, qualified and critical citizens. The RU study object focuses on the educational processes in formal, non formal & informal contexts, covering its trans/national regulation conditions, circumstances in which such processes occur and communication spaces where they emerge. According to lifelong learning (LLL), inclusive & integrated education perspectives, this object requires multidisciplinary& collaborative approaches, in national & international networks, capable of providing opportunities for the sustainability of research and the promotion of a citizen science.
OBJECTIVES
_Develop research about educational topics & issues meaningful for educational actors & systems.
_Analyse the implementation of (inter/national) educational policies & contribute to their definition (guidelines, frameworks).
_Build up research-based proposals (including technological-based resources) to the development of multiliteracies & transversal competences, in different levels (from pre-school to HE, including advanced training & LLL) & contexts (schools, academic, work).
_Implement & assess programmes & mechanisms for supervising education, training and human & professional development of diverse actors & institutions.
_Reinforce the development of knowledge & resources within qualitative research methodologies, analyzing their role in knowledge construction.
THEMATIC AXES
_Education for thedevelopment of sustainable communities & societies
_Education & multiliteracies for the development of critical citizens
_Quality & evaluation of education, training & research
To develop this PA, CIDTFF has a diverse team of researchers, organized in 3 groups: Languages, Discourses & Identities; Science, Technology & Innovation; Policies, Evaluation & Quality. The RU benefits from international research environments (European & Ibero-American contexts & Portuguese-speaking countries; networks, projects, mobility, scientific & training events), allowing for the development of young researchers' high quality training paths.
The Open Science (OS) strategy is a priority. Aligned with national and European guidelines, using the UA infrastructures & repositories, it comprises open access actions, open research & innovation, open science networks, OS training & awareness & citizen science approach.
10.3 Summary in English for evaluation
In knowledge-based & globalized societies, the need toeducate more qualified & critical citizens gives educational research an important role (socio political, cultural, economic). Considering this & CIDTFF epistemological framework, research paths and team profile, and bearing in mind the unpredictability & dynamics of societal challenges and the need to tackle them with agile, articulate, collaborative & flexible responses, the following research objectives and strategic axes are defined.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
_Develop research about educational topics & issues meaningful for educational actors & systems.
_Analyse the implementation of (inter/national) educational policies & contribute to their definition (guidelines, frameworks).
_Build up research-based proposals (including technological-based resources) to the development of multiliteracies & transversal competences, in different levels (from pre-school to HE, including advanced training & LLL) & contexts (schools, academic, work).
_Implement and assess programmes & mechanisms for supervising education, training & human & professional development of diverse actors & institutions.
_Reinforce the development of knowledge & resources within qualitative research methodologies, analyzing their role in knowledge construction.
RESEARCH LINES & THEMATICS
1. Education for the development of sustainable communities&societies: diversities and inclusive education; well-being&empowerment; plurilingualism, intercomprehension & interculturality; education for sustainability; awareness in Higher Education
2. Education & multiliteracies for the development of critical citizens: languages, cultures & literacies; scientific literacy & critical and creative thinking; digital literacies & multimodal practices; research literacy
3. Quality & evaluation of education, training & research: education policies & development; innovation in Higher Education; professional development & practices; integrated approaches (formal & non-formal contexts) in education & training; sustainability ofresearch.
MAIN EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
1.Innovative research-based proposals (programs& resources), with a strong technological component, from an integrated education approach and articulated with training (initial/continuous/advanced) and society, in a perspective of design-based research & network development.
Examples: i) Open Education Smart Campus Platform (OESC) with 3 areas: Annotated Multimedia Open Library, Virtual Campus, Education Factory; ii) Digital educational resources for experimental science teaching.
2. knowledge about learning processes & professional and institutional practices & development, built & shared with educational agents in diverse contexts and made available in OA to be mobilized in diverse situations articulating research, training & innovation.
Examples: i) Multimodal Narratives Portal (including narratives from different contexts, countries, professional domains & disciplines); ii) European collection of critical thinking skills for different professional fields.
3. Insights for evidence-based education policies (local, inter/national), including recommendations & reference documents.
Examples: Strategic Municipal Educational Plans; European Framework of Reference for Language Teachers; Framework for the Assessment of Competences on Intercomprehension; Sustained cooperation network of advanced training & research between CIDTFF & PALOP - Portuguese-Speaking African Countries.
4. Knowledge & tools about qualitative research processes & research supervision supported by distributed technologies
Examples: CIAIQ, Ibero-AmericanCongress on Qualitative Research & WCQR - World Conference on Qualitative Research; Qualitative Data Analysis Software WebQda: expansion to other domains (eg. business; market analysis) & new functionalities (eg. transcription of multimedia data, optimization of online collaboration processes).
5. Knowledge transfer practices & tools, to promote the public engagement with S&T and an Open Science & innovation awareness.
Examples: i) SKG (Smart Knowledge Garden, an integrated environment of education & training, articulating the Labs' action); ii) OESC (Open Education Smart Campus, with an Education Factory Area); iii) Editorial line to educators; iv) CIEC Exhibitions: Tinkering Studio; itinerant exhibition in partnership with Carsoscópio & Parque de Astronomia.
SKG and OESC are two transversal projects, to be developed the next 5 years, that articulate R&D, promoting the social visibility and impact of research, in a perspective of open & citizen science.
To develop this plan, CIDTFFhas a diverse team of integrated researchers, collaborators and PhD students (from 4 PhD programmes), organized in 3 groups that articulately contribute to the RU's project: Languages, Discourses& Identities; Science, Technology & Innovation; Policies, Evaluation & Quality. Researchers work in international environments (consolidated networks, projects, research mobility, scientific events, summer schools) which support young researchers' scientific training, allowing for the development of their research within projects & teams and giving them opportunities for co-supervision, co-authorship and internships. Internationalization occurs especially in European and Ibero-American contexts, but CIDTFF has strengthened cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries, especially the PALOP& East-Timor.
The Open Science (OS) strategy, a priority for CIDTFF, is aligned with national/European guidelines, using the UA infrastructures & repositories. It comprises open access (OA) actions (scientific production repository & OA Journal); open research & innovation (eg. webQDA); open science networks (eg. Miriadi); OS training & awareness (eg. SCoRE Autumn School) & citizen science approach. Data management plans for CIDTFF's projects is foreseen.
