Abstract

10.2 Summary in English for general dissemination purposes The i2ADS Plan of Activities for 2018-2022 is structured around the 5 priority strategies defined: i) consolidation of research in arts and design; ii) consolidation of the policy of internationalization; iii) development of collaborative research practices; iv) articulation between postgraduate training and research; v) transference of knowledge and technology, with an open science policy and the appropriation and impact of research in society. The research is housed in research hubs that emerge from research activities and projects. In 2018-2022, 7 research hubs are established: Artistic Research; Research in Drawing; Arts, Design and Technologies; Artistic studies; Research in Arts Education; Interculturality and Society; Arts and Psychology. The hubs allow for a fluid organizational structure and research, fostering cross-fertilization and dialogue between research teams, discussion and pollination between the different areas of i2ADS and those with other fields of knowledge. i2ADS will continue to hold international conferences, seminars and workshops, exhibitions and concerts, and an editorial policy. The creation of a biannual international journal in the arts is a priority, along with the existing publications (PSIAX, Derivas, Artistic Research Does and Mono). These activities are directly within the scope of the research projects and respond to a policy of visibility, externalization and internationalization, consolidating the excellence of i2ADS and its place in the national and international landscapes. Internationalization also takes place through the incorporation and participation in international networks/structures in the field of arts and design, a continuous incentive to the participation of researchers in international conferences, and the publication in newspapers, books, catalogues with impact in the fields of arts and humanities, stressing the importance of open science policies. The development of partnerships and networks allows i2ADS to have greater competitiveness in the incorporation of applications for international financing. With this plan, i2ADS commits itself: to promote a creative environment for innovation in the field of arts and design; to create the appropriate conditions for carrying out research projects; to promote a research culture based on international standards in the fields of arts and humanities; to support and frame students and young researchers; to the clarification of research in arts and design; to the definition and implementation of relevant research results and products; to contributing to the public awareness of the role of arts and design as a form of knowledge; to social responsibility and to the transference of knowledge and technology, at the level of services to the community, connection to the industry and artistic intervention in the social and public space. 10.3 Summary in English for evaluation i2ADS is currently composed of 26 integrated doctorate researchers, 11 integrated non-doctorate researchers and 102 collaborating researchers. The i2ADS Plan of Activities for 2018-2022 is structured around the 5 priority strategies defined: i) consolidation of research in arts and design; ii) consolidation of a policy of internationalization; iii) development of collaborative research practices; iv) articulation between postgraduate training and research; v) transference of knowledge and technology, with an open science policy and the appropriation and impact of research in society. The goals of i2ADS are structured around: the affirmation and clarification of the place of research in artistic higher education in dialogue with the national and international communities of research in art; the development of research in articulation with other institutions and the establishment of partnerships and networks; the dissemination and referencing of the knowledge produced through the organization of scientific/artistic events, research publications and their presentation in artistic/scientific relevant places; in the articulation of research with graduate and postgraduate courses, involving students and young researchers in research dynamics; in the establishment of connections between the research in the arts and other areas of knowledge; and in the development of services in the artistic and scientific field to the community, contributing to a public consciousness of the role of the arts and design as ways of knowledge and intervention. To answer to its strategic priorities and mission, the i2ADS is structured through research projects, hosted in the research hubs. They aim to consolidate and develop the research, to strengthen its research staff and to empower mechanisms which may lead to the team’s sustainable growth, and the attesting of the i2ADS as one of the R&D Units within the fields of Arts and Design, Artistic and Musical Development, with greatest national and international impact. The responsibility of turning i2ADS into a competitive unit in internationally funded applications is incorporated by setting up a structure of support for its elaboration and by fostering partner networks. Notwithstanding, we aim to expand the internationalisation policy to the incentives given to researchers for the presentation of their work in scientific and artistic events, and for publishing in internationally renowned journals/books/catalogues, encouraging a policy of open access publication. The research hubs establish, in organizational terms, relational dynamics between researchers, allowing transits and intersections between projects, fostering cross-fertilization and dialogue between the research teams, discussion and pollination between the different areas of i2ADS and of those with other fields of knowledge. The hubs also allow the discussion of ongoing research and foster structured dynamics of dissemination of results. i2ADS will continue to hold international conferences, seminars and workshops, exhibitions and concerts, and an editorial policy. We highlight the continuing of CAR, ICOCEP, ICMC, DUT, EI_EA and EPRAE and the organization of new conferences in the field of Media, Accessibility, Social Inclusion and Open Access. The creation of a biannual international journal in the arts is a priority, along with the existing publications (PSIAX, Derivas, Artistic Research Does and Mono). These activities are directly related to the scope of the research projects and respond to a policy of internationalization, consolidating the excellence of i2ADS and its place in the national and international landscapes. Internationalization also takes place through the incorporation and participation in international networks/structures in the field of arts and design. The i2ADS will incorporate 4 international networks (SAR, ELIA, DRN and the leadership of the NW29-EERA). With this plan, i2ADS commits itself: to promote a creative environment for innovation in the field of arts and design; to create the appropriate conditions for carrying out research projects; to promote a research culture based on international standards in the field of the arts and humanities; to support and frame students and young researchers; to clarify the research in arts and design; to the definition and implementation of relevant research results and products; to contributing to the public awareness of the role of arts and design as a form of knowledge; to social responsibility and to the transference of knowledge and technology, at the level of services to the community, connection to the industry and artistic intervention in the social and public space. In sum, during these 5 years, we predict: 40 international conferences, always published through conference proceedings, 4 participations in international networks, the release of 30 issues of journals, the release of monographs by artists/teachers, and an average of 1 paper in a national/international journal per integrated researcher and 1 paper in an international open science journal, plus 2 presentations in conferences, per year. In numbers, this means 260 articles in national and international journals, 130 of them in open science. In terms of conferences, a minimum of 260 participations. Of the different projects housed in the research hubs, several applications for national and international funding will be formalized, and it is expected that in the period 2019-2022, 3 applications for international funds will be financed. At the national level, i2ADS' focus is on alignment with regional financing strategies and the deepening of a direct link to the industry.
