Abstract
The Center for Psychology at University of Porto (CPUP) mission is to conduct cutting-edge fundamental and applied psychological research to advance knowledge and innovation and address emergent societal needs while promoting sustainable growth and fostering an inclusive society.CPUP envisions a future where research generates transformative solutions, enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.
CPUP’s strategic aims focus on consolidating international scientific standing, maximizing societal relevance, nurturing the new generation of researchers, upholding research ethics and integrity, and cultivating a collaborative culture. Building on our core research lines in human development, relationships, learning, memory, sexuality, work, and diversity& inclusion, we will actively explore emerging cross-cutting themes like digitalization, climate change, and mental health. We will continue to invest in methodological innovation, refining existing tools and embracing new approaches to tackle scientific challenges. Besides persisting in curiosity-driven research and relying on our labs and equipment, we will amplify research reach through interventions’ scalability, contributing to prevention and implementation science.
Expanding our collaborations, CPUP will create a Participatory Innovation Hub for Digital Psychology. This hub fosters collaboration between academia, citizens, and industry, translating research into practical solutions for human-centered innovation. Additionally, partnering with the World Association for Sexual Health and U.Porto, we will lead the creation of the World Observatory on Sexual Health. This initiative aims to develop evidence-based knowledge, promote capacity building, and foster policy dialogue on sexual health and rights globally.
To cultivate research excellence and interdisciplinarity, we will leverage strategic partnerships with international consortia and capitalize on the vast resources of the U.Porto ecosystem.Combined with our proactive approach to securing funding, we aim to achieve a 25% increase in internationally funded research projects.CPUP seeks to attract researchers by becoming a stimulating host institution that nurtures career advancement. We will persist in securing funding, supporting grant applications, and allocating a significant portion of our budget to recruitment.A structured mentorship program will help researchers navigate career paths.
CPUP reaffirms its dedication to science and societal impact, supporting the recently established Observatory for Social Challenges and the European Literacy Network. We will further our international leadership role by creating the Child Protection, Inclusion and Rights Network and the EFT-U, a network of university research centers engaged in Emotion-Focused Therapy. Ultimately, these initiatives aim to bridge the gap between academia, decision-making, and the public, advocating science as a critical tool for development and social justice.
