Abstract
CQE, the most comprehensive Chemistry-focused R&D unit at Universidade de Lisboa ranked Excellent by FCT, focuses on pioneering chemistry solutions for societal challenges while providing advanced training and disseminating knowledge.
For 2025-2029, CQE has outlined six strategic action axes: (1) Excellent Science, prioritizing cutting-edge research aligned with societal challenges, attracting top-tier researchers, and securing funding for state-of-the-art infrastructure; (2) Integrating Researchers, supporting talented researchers in tenure-track careers with opportunities for professional development and international experiences; (3) Advanced Training, implementing an ambitious training program to retain and attract top MSc students and accelerate their transition to competitive PhD programs; (4) International Impact, increasing international funding, collaboration, and visibility through various strategies including supporting grant applications and participating in conferences; (5) Outreach, Open Science, Data Curation, and Digitalization, prioritizing open science, science communication, and outreach, while managing data and intellectual property effectively; (6) Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, strengthening collaboration with external stakeholders, enhancing technology transfer, and valorising intellectual property.
CQE is restructured into six scientifically coherent groups, each aligned with thematic lines (TLs) that provide a roadmap for research at CQE, focusing on urgent societal challenges: MOLCat, MATChem, MEDLife, and GREENChem.
To support its strategy, CQE has developed 21 tenured researcher profiles prioritizing scientific excellence, and implemented mechanisms for career development such as Empower@CQE for scientific leadership, Mentor@CQE for mentoring, and Assess&Promote@CQE for evaluating and promoting researchers based on merit.
