Abstract
Aiming the sustainable development and business innovation, the FibEnTech Activity Plan for 2025-2029 will focus:
a) the development of efficient, innovative, and sustainable processes for valuing waste from natural endogenous resources;
b) the development of decarbonized and sustainable forms of energy production;
c) the valorization of endogenous natural resources through the development of sustainable processes that are based on the creation of new value chains with certified sustainability and reduced environmental impact.
With this purpose, several research activities will be pursued, namely:
- Development of super/hydrophobic and biologically active cellulose nano/fiber-based materials, using natural products, including chemical compounds available in secondary streams of the paper and dissolving pulp production processes;
- Optimization of electrochemical processes for the recovery of macronutrients from effluents and for the reuse of the treated wastewaters in industrial operations;
- Development of transformation processes to introduce recycled fibers into the circularity of textile processes and assess the reuse of recycled textile fibers with poor characteristics for textile processing in non-textile products;
- Development/optimization of biochemical, electrochemical and bioelectrochemical processes for H2 production from wastewaters;
- Development of prototype advanced smart windows integrating thermotropic devices, electrochromic devices and photovoltaics cells, through innovative material synthesis, characterization, advanced optical modelling, and real-scale testing;
- Development of photocatalytic materials suitable for use with visible/sunlight in the decomposition of persistent pollutants;
- Evaluation and validation of new packaging and cellulose-based products to replace fossil plastics, ensuring a socially fair transition to a nature-positive and neutral economy for the climate;
- Optimization of the use of natural dyes and auxiliary products in the textile dyeing and finishing processes.
