Abstract

CEDIS' activities are structured into three overarching thematic lines: Within the realm of “Empowering PEOPLE”, CEDIS adopts a comprehensive approach to strengthen fundamental and human rights. Discrimination, particularly concerning gender and race (A1), as well as family dynamics (A2), is vigorously addressed. CEDIS is dedicated to developing research on migration policies and laws (A3) and on robust data protection, especially in light of emerging technologies (A4). We advocate for corporate social responsibility in business settings (A5) and work towards refining human-oriented criminal law (A6). Additionally, our research extends to examining human rights in areas affected by crises and international conflicts (A7). Simultaneously, CEDIS is committed to “Protecting the PLANET” by driving sustainable change. Our research endeavours focus on understanding the impact of human practices on the environment, climate, and energy (B1). We prioritize the preservation of ocean ecosystems (B2) and the safeguarding of airspace (B3). Moreover, we explore sustainable approaches to intellectual property laws to align with goals of sustainable development (B4). Lastly, CEDIS focuses on “Promoting Strong INSTITUTIONS”. We strive to ensure compliance with economic regulations by companies and institutions (C1) while advocating for responsible consumption of goods and services (C2). Our efforts extend to regulating the financial markets (C3), innovating in the creation of laws (C4), and enhancing legal reasoning processes (C5). We work towards improving dispute resolution mechanisms (C6) and redefining governance models in the digital era (C7). Additionally, we advocate for reforms in benefit distribution through taxation (C8), with an overarching aim to integrate data analysis tools into legal methodology for a deeper societal understanding (C9). Over the forthcoming five-year period of programmatic funding, CEDIS aims to maintain a commitment to transparency, democracy, and inclusivity, while prioritizing the fostering of anti-discrimination, gender equality, inclusiveness, and data privacy. Furthermore, actively seeking external funding opportunities, particularly focusing on EU-funded projects, promoting internationalization and interdisciplinarity, and attracting and retaining top talents are our key objectives. CEDIS's activities will be delineated across three primary categories: RESEARCH, EDUCATION, and OUTREACH. As OUTPUT, our research findings will be disseminated in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, CEDIS will publish reports and policies, organize conferences, seminars, and workshops, and develop multimedia content to reach diverse audiences. Ultimately, CEDIS aspires to have a tangible IMPACT on policy, legislation, and society, by fostering informed discussions, raising awareness and promoting active participation.
