Abstract
The UICISA: E has been assessed by the FCT since 2004. Its success is based on effective teamwork developed by researchers, highly qualified administrative staff, and research fellows. The UICISA: E researchers team consists of 120 integrated PhD holders, 47 collaborators, and 41 PhD students supervised by UICISA: E integrated PhD holders. The researchers are from 29 education and clinical institutions across Portugal, including the main management institution and 5 clusters (3 in the other management institutions).
The UICISA: E’s team is recognized at an international level for its contributions to the development of nursing and health sciences. This recognition is mainly due to the researchers’ actions: involvement in R&D activities in collaboration with international networks and consortia, visits to international research centers, and dissemination of research findings at international events.
The UICISA: E’s mission is to develop R&D activities in the field of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, at an interdisciplinary and international level, with the aim of providing a sustainable and socially responsible response to complex problems related to health promotion, disease prevention, care for people with diseases, and end-of-life care, towards integrated people-centered care.
The main objectives of UICISA: E are: To advance and apply scientific knowledge in nursing and allied health sciences, mainly in co-creation with citizens, aligned with UICISA: E’s priority health research topics, through national and international collaboration, to promote evidence-based nursing care; To promote researchers’ training, from initiation to advanced research; To promote a scientific and technological culture and citizen science, and to carry out actions of special relevance to society in order to generate responsible research and innovation, contributing to health promotion, scientific literacy, and regional wealth; To conduct applied research and technological innovations in healthcare aimed at delivering innovative products and improving existing technologies in healthcare to improve health outcomes; To disseminate scientific knowledge.
As the team is focused on opening new paths in R&D, for the 2025-2029 period, the UICISA: E Research Organization and Management Model was updated. This updated model is organized into Thematic Lines, Structuring Projects, and Associated Research Projects (ARPs), based on 4 core principles. The R&D activities of each ARP may include the generation, synthesis, transfer, and/or application of scientific knowledge throughout the life cycle and in several intervention contexts. The projects are boosted by UICISA: E Strategic Axes: Evidence-BasedPractice; Experimental and Applied Research in Health Care Technologies; Edition and Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge; Researchers’ Training and Pedagogical Innovation; and Extension and Citizen Involvement.
