Abstract

The Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA, http://cidma.ua.pt) is a multidisciplinary research center of mathematics hosted at University of Aveiro (http://www.ua.pt). CIDMA was created in 2010, as a fusion between the previous FCT research centers: UIMA - Mathematics and Applications; and CEOC - Centre for Research on Optimization and Control (that had their own roots in 1994). The CIDMA is the largest research center in Portugal in the field of mathematics and applications, having 211 members and collaborators. Besides having PhD Members from several departments and polytechnic schools of University of Aveiro, CIDMA alsohas PhD Members from the following participating institutions: University of Porto (UP), FEUP; University of Algarve (Ualg); Universidade Lusófona of Porto (COFAC); Military Academy; Camões Secondary School (ESC); Polytechnic University of Leiria (IPLeiria); Polytechnic University of Setúbal (IPSetúbal); Polytechnic University of Viseu (IPV); Lisbon School of Engineering (ISEL/IPL); and University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL). CIDMA's main goal is to carry out fundamental and applied research in several domains of Mathematics and spread such findings through scientific publications and meetings of high international level. The CIDMA also contributes for the scientific development of young researchers, e.g. by supporting four PhD Programs, as well as for the preparation of new researchers through post-graduate and advanced education. In order to achieve such goals, CIDMA promotes activities such as: regular talks, courses and seminars; dissemination of the scientific production of its team through the participation in scientific meetings; international cooperation; organization of workshops and congresses; postgraduate and advanced research. In order to increase its contribution to social and economic development, CIDMA also strives for an active participation in multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects in cooperation with other research teams. The CIDMA activities are scientifically organized in the following eight research groups: - Algebra and Geometry (AG); - Complex and Hypercomplex Analysis (CHA); - Functional Analysis and Applications (FAA); - Gravitational Geometry and Dynamics (GGD); - History of Mathematics and Mathematical Education (HMME); - Optimization, Graph Theory and Combinatorics (OGTC); - Probability and Statistics (PS); - Systems and Control (SC). Additionally, CIDMA has the following six Thematic Lines/Strands, which act transversally to the research groups: - GEOMETRIX; - MATEAS - Mathematics: Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education; - PICS - Inverse Problems and Applications in Health Sciences; - BIOMATH - Biomathematics; - TFC - From Theory to Computational Frameworks; - MI - Mathematics for Industry.
