Abstract
INTERDISCIPLINARY KNOWLEDGE IN A TRANSDISCIPLINARY CONTEXT TOWARDS INNOVATIVE HEALTH SOLUTIONS
CIIS is dedicated to exploring new frontiers of knowledge and innovation in nursing, neuroscience, biomedicine, dentistry and medicine. Strategic initiatives are carefully aligned with European programs to foster societal stability, sustainability and inclusivity. CIIS focuses on healthcare provision for chronic diseases and vulnerable populations, through precision medicine and digital technology in line with the Laudato Si' and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
These commitments are reflected in the following Strategic Objectives for 2025-29, focused on health and healthcare provision:
SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINANTS: assess the impact of social, economic, and environmental factors on health outcomes; identify strategies to address health disparities and inequalities, with a focus on vulnerable populations.
LIFESPAN WELL-BEING: develop interventions for healthy aging, disease prevention, and improve quality of life (QoL); promote health and well-being at all ages.
NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES: advance knowledge on non-communicable diseases, focusing on cancer, through interdisciplinary research initiatives; develop personalized and innovative therapies to improve outcomes.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES: develop novel prevention strategies, diagnostics, and therapies to combat infectious diseases; enhance surveillance systems and public health interventions to mitigate the spread of infectious pathogens.
HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGIES AND DIGITAL SOLUTIONS: harness the power of digital health technologies to revolutionize healthcare and improve patient outcomes; create innovative tools and platforms for improved data collection, analysis and decision-making.
CIIS, through these 5 Strategic Objectives, will create the Católica Health Data Lake. This integrated informatics infrastructure, designed to aggregate and harmonize diverse datasets generated across several research domains, embodies CIIS commitment to data-driven research and innovation, serving as a centralized repository for molecular, clinical, QoL and behavioral data. Utilizing the power of advanced data analytics and AI, CIIS is poised to create precision health solutions tailored to meet individual needs. These solutions will shape preventive measures and significantly influence health policies. To address the complex health needs of society, transdisciplinary collaboration among various stakeholders is of paramount importance. The role of IT companies as partners in this endeavor will be crucial to achieve these ambitious goals. The proven track record of CIIS in successfully completing projects with academic-enterprise partnerships is a demonstration that the Centre has the necessary skills and know-how to do so. This experience and expertise will undoubtedly be instrumental in the successful realization of CIIS objectives and creation of the Catholic Health Data Lake.
