Abstract

The Centre for Research in Education and Psychology, CIEP-UE, is an FCT centre, assessed as Very Good, aimed at promoting education and building knowledge in the fields of Educational Sciences and Psychology, and transferring it to the community. Due to the complexity of the objects and the epistemological and methodological diversity of its approaches, CIEP is more than an interdisciplinary research centre; it is a set of material and human resources, a space and time that aim, in a transdisciplinary approach, and at its scale, to transform of reality. The CIEP consists of 40 integrated researchers and 10 collaborators who come together, varying significantly over time around specific research or intervention projects. It thus rejects the fixedness of closed research groups and, in this way, enhances various collaborations and synergies. This fluid mosaic organisation does not prevent CIEP from having a research agenda organised around 4 thematic nuclei: Territories and Educational Policies; Teaching, learning, and assessment; Training and professional development; and Development, Inclusion, and Well-being. As the only Research Centre in Education and Psychology south of the Tagus River, CIEP has, at its core, an intimate connection to the territory and its communities, without losing sight of the broader horizons of Portugal, Europe, and the world. In fact, CIEP has been involved in transformative research interventions that range from local scope, such as a school or a village, to the entire national territory. Moreover, it actively participates in European projects and cooperation programs, particularly with PALOP countries. It has also been a distinctive feature of CIEP-UÉ a very intense involvement in studies evaluating educational public policies and participation in working groups defining these policies. Together with a wide range of other research centres in Education Sciences and Policies, attentive to the emergence of new realities, CIEP is building a cross-cutting agenda aimed at studying the societal impacts of Artificial Intelligence. It prioritizes the construction of knowledge and the development of programs to promote critical thinking skills to be integrated into initial and continuous training curricula. The doctoral programs in Educational Sciences and Psychology at the University of Évora take place, by law and established practice, in close collaboration with the Centre. In fact, a significant portion of the faculty in these programs are integrated into CIEP, where most of their students are welcomed. PhD students, upon being welcomed into the centre, receive logistical and scientific support, and are also called upon to join project teams, thus building their curricula and strengthening the group of researchers.
