Abstract
REMIT - Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies - is an interdisciplinary research unit founded in January 2017. Based on a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective, REMIT seeks to respond to societal challenges through a holistic approach involving a wide range of scientific areas, such as Economics, Management, Information Technologies, Tourism, Heritage, and Culture. Based on the production of advanced scientific knowledge, the centre has a special focus on its application to the resolution of real issues and challenges, having as strategic guidelines the understanding of the local, national, and international environment and the development of activities aimed at professional practice, namely, in the business world. Its mission involves carrying out advanced international and comparative research, both fundamental and applied, framed by a sustainable development approach on economic, technological, social and cultural topics, interacting with different stakeholders, associated with publication and training, oriented towards creation of economic and social value for local communities and society in general, with the aim of producing and disseminating original scientific knowledge about societal changes/challenges, focusing on companies and territories. The centre is structured into two research groups: 1) Territories and Organizations for Sustainable Development; 2) Digital Transformation and Innovation in Organizations. Each group has a coordinator and includes researchers with different profiles, gathered around internaland external research projects. Each researcher can participate in more than one research group and projects can mobilize researchers from various groups, as well as other organizations. Thus, the centre’s functional structure is flexible and dynamic, and projects play a central role in its functional organization. The strategy and activity plan are based on four pillars: 1. Strengthening the team; 2. Production and dissemination of knowledge; 3. Internationalization and inclusion in academic networks and 4. Interaction with society. Despite the multidisciplinary nature of the centre, the research activities carried out have sustainability issues as a common denominator and are fully aligned with the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
