Abstract

ciTechCare is a R&D unit of Polytechnic of Leiria dedicated to advancing healthcare through advanced solutions that empower patients and caregivers improving their quality of life. Building upon our foundation, we use interdisciplinary approaches to craft earlier diagnose tools, therapies, and technological solutions while deepening our commitment to sustainable human development. Structured around Health Promotion and Care (HPC) and Innovation in Clinical Technology (ICT), our research addresses various aspects, including healthy lifestyle changes, sustainable nutrition, rehabilitation, and occupational health. Led by healthcare professionals, these efforts align with contemporary societal demands and merge technology with care to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes. Engaging stakeholders across sectors, including the ULS-RL - Local Health Unit of Leiria Region, NERLEI-Leiria Business Association, and Start-Up Leiria, we foster effective communication and steer ethical, legal, and political contexts to drive impactful outcomes. Our commitment to internationalization is evident through participation in initiatives like the European University RUN-EU consortium and the WHO-WRA, World Rehabilitation Alliance of the World Health Organization. Additionally, our membership in prestigious international scientific societies and hosting of international students enrich our research environment, enhancing the global impact of our projects. At ciTechCare, sustainability is a paramount priority, guiding our efforts to create healthcare solutions that minimize environmental impact and promote resilience. Through state-of-the-art infrastructure and ongoing master’s programs in various healthcare fields, including physiotherapy, nutrition innovation, and palliative care, we aim to cultivate the next generation of healthcare leaders and innovators. Moreover, we aim to establishing differentiated service provision through initiatives like the Center of Diagnosis for the Community and an Occupational Health Academy, that will contribute to ciTeChare´s long-term financial sustainability and support the development of advanced educational programs. Committed to creating a sustainable workspace that promotes gender equality, inclusivity, and work-life balance, ciTechCare prioritizes the well-being of its workforce. Since our establishment we have consistently demonstrated a robust strategy aimed at leading solution-driven healthcare advancements. Our achievements have positioned us as a national reference in clinical engineering, nutrition innovation, and assistive technology, while also earning international recognition in various healthcare domains. Looking ahead, we remain committed to sustainability and innovation, dedicated to fostering the future for generations to come, improving healthcare outcomes for all.
