Abstract

CEAD is a R&D unit established in 2020 for the production and promotion of scientific knowledge in the area of adult education and community intervention. Its members collaborate on research and share practices and experiences within national and international scientific networks. The mission of CEAD is to support strategic objectives, including promoting scientific knowledge production, ensuring training conditions free from stereotypes of all kinds, facilitating participation in the labour market, promoting lifelong learning based on digital transition and active ageing, among other objectives. As the sole centre in the country dedicated to researching adult education, we will continue to invest in the development of this field, contributing to scientific innovation and national and international cooperation. One of our main development strategies (obj. 1) is to apply for competitive funding calls, thanks to the partnerships that our members have strengthened and those that have emerged in the meantime (both at the European level and with Brazil). Considerable knowledge has been produced on educational and social inequalities in various contexts of adult life, on gender issues and interseccionality, on education and citizenship, on education and learning of older adults, and transitions of traditional and on non-traditional students into the labour market. The renewed members of CEAD will focus on developing research areas at the intersection of education, educational psychology, and related fields, also considering emergent challenges of artificial intelligence. CEAD’s Ethical Chart will continue guiding research ethics. The centre has made significant efforts to provide career support for young researchers (obj. 2). Researchers at various stages of their professional careers are welcome to participate. The aim is to help researchers enhance their CVs and facilitate their integration into more permanent positions. Funds will be allocated to achieve this objective (hiring a junior researcher, post-doctoral scholarships, integration into international networks). From a science-for-all perspective, including the open access paradigm, we continue to disseminate scientific knowledge (obj. 3) and emphasize the link between research and development in all areas of society. We have strengthened our existing partnerships to achieve this goal without constraints. CEAD's integration into the community supports the continuation of this strategy and increases its visibility. The objective of strengthening and broadening current partnerships with third sector organisations (obj. 4) also includes CEAD offering services, such as science communication, impact assessment studies, and needs diagnosis, among others, The centre will continue to be organized with a board of directors, a scientific committee, and external consultants. Despite its small size, CEAD's unique nature attests to the importance of its existence.
