Abstract

With its headquarters in Lisbon and nuclei in Porto and Portimão, CEAD Francisco Suárez (CEAD-FS) carries out decentralized scientific research, procuring a position as an excellence R&DU, having as strategy Law as multiversum. This Strategy represents a multidisciplinary approach to the Law, by gathering multidisciplinary teams (already with researchers with Political Science, and Economics backgrounds) that will develop research in relevant legal problems through the perspective of different scientific domains, and in dialogue with civil society. Research Hubs: Research will unfold around 5 aggregating research hubs that are particularly relevant to future Law and the future of Law: Digital Transformation; Social Justice; New Frontiers; Health Rights; and International Society acting as research cornerstones. Research Goals: Putting into practice these strategic lines, CEAD-FS will guide its action by aiming: 1) Advancement of knowledge: The unit plans to explore emerging areas within legal sciences, with a special interest in generating practicable applicable knowledge. 2) Knowledge transfer: CEAD-FS’s strategic communication approach should be built on three different axes: scientific communication (to peers), political communication (to decision makers), and civil communication (to different strands of civil society). 3) Scientific network: CEAD-FS is committed to fostering collaborations with other R&D units and with relevant players of society, aiming to establish networks with privileged partners that enhance research synergies. 4) Internationalization: Recognizing the importance of international collaboration, CEAD-FS will actively seek partnerships with relevant institutions and procured integration in research networks. 5) Career development and interplay with PhD programs: CEAD-FS is actively committed to facilitating the integration of researchers into permanent career positions andplans to develop and strengthen PhD programs in collaboration with its research projects. 6) Advanced training and coaching: Already fostering a PhD program in Law, CEAD-FS will implement a Post-Doc Program in order to progressively attract researchers, also envolving PhD students in its activities. 7) Open science policy and data management: CEAD-FS fully embraces the principles of open science, with all its journals and E-books available on the website, and, in the near future, seeks to create an editorial line of E-policy briefs that should be available on its website and distributed to all relevant stakeholders. CEAD-FS will implement a Data Management Plan (DMP). 8) Gender equality and inclusiveness: CEAD-FS will implement a Code of Good Conduct on Gender Equality and Inclusiveness, further developing research on this specific area.
