Abstract
CIPER's activity plan, "Promoting Human Functioning through Physical Activity and Sport During the Life-Course," aligns with WHO's concept of human functioning, integrating biological and lived health comprehensively. Human kinetics, its research focus, explores human movement's role in health, employing an interdisciplinary and technological approach for innovative insights. The plan aims to generate internationally impactful knowledge on functioning through physical activity and sport behaviors, translating outcomes into health policy and practice. It integrates sub-disciplines like biomechanics, exercise physiology, psychology of physical activity, and motor learning, promoting a paradigm shift in understanding human movement's importance across the lifespan. Four specialized research groups, including behavioral regulation, exercise precision, neuromuscular biomechanics, and skill learning, collaborate to address functioning across life stages. Each group brings unique expertise, prioritizing data validity, observational studies, and tailored interventions, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and international partnerships. CIPER's management structure ensures effective coordination, emphasizing sustainability, ethical research, and empowerment of researchers at all career stages. The programmatic plan focuses on enhancing interdisciplinary research, empowering younger researchers, and securing programmatic funding for various initiatives. Strategies include recruiting assistant and junior researchers, fostering internationalization, and acquiring advanced equipment. Internal project funding supports inter-group collaboration and foundational research.
CIPER's Doctoral Program in Human Kinetics is a cornerstone of its advanced training initiatives, offering specialized tracks aligned with research priorities. Funding includes doctoral scholarships and covers costs associated with laboratory materials, software, equipment maintenance, and student fees. The ongoing merger of UCoimbra’s researchers with CIPER will facilitate the establishment of a new PhD program at UCoimbra, bolstered by the integrated researchers' expertise from CIPER. These aspects collectively form a comprehensive strategy for securing programmatic funding to support various research, training, and infrastructure needs within CIPER. The proposed budget prioritizes human resources, missions, consultants, and equipment acquisitions, enhancing research capabilities in human kinetics. Overall, CIPER's plan aims to develop innovative insights for improving functioning and well-being through sport and physical activity.
