Abstract
INESC-ID is a well-established research unit with a rich history of over 20 years. The institution's strategic vision is based on four main pillars: scientific excellence, internationalization, technology transfer, and societal impact. Recently, this vision has been enriched by incorporating a fifth pillar: talent development. We believe that this pillar is crucial to ensure our sustainability and growth in a highly competitive environment where it is difficult to attract and retain highly qualified human resources.
At INESC-ID, we firmly believe in the fundamental role of computational methods and technological solutions in addressing a wide range of global challenges. These challenges encompass critical areas such as healthcare for an aging population, the need for clean energy, improving urban life, mitigating climate change, and strengthening digital security. Our goal is to serve as a catalyst, leveraging our expertise and fostering collaboration across diverse disciplines to effectively tackle these complex problems.
For 2025-2029, we have outlined strategic goals aligned with each of our pillars.
Under scientific excellence, our focus is on maintaining high standards of quality and ethics in research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing our experimental infrastructure.
On internationalization, we aim to increase the visibility of our research, strengthen our participation in leading research networks, and expand international collaborations through talent recruitment. Additionally, we plan to promote the participation of our researchers in top scientific events and organize top international conferences.
On technology transfer, our strategy involves developing initiatives to identify research results with commercial potential, establishing connections with investors and startups. Furthermore, we aim to promote digital transformation through collaborations with companies and strengthen the link to major service operators.
Societal impact remains a central focus, with plans to develop effective communication strategies, reinforce online presence, engage with diverse audiences, collaborate on policy-making initiatives, and forge partnerships with relevant infrastructures.
Regarding the new pillar, talent development, we will focus on supporting the integration of new researchers hired under the FCT-Tenure program. We will follow human resource management policies aligned with national and international guidelines, encompassing research ethics and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to investing in the training of doctoral students and researchers and obtaining European certifications in the area of human resources and management.
Through these strategic initiatives, INESC-ID is prepared to effectively address future challenges, remaining committed to being a key player in the development of technological solutions that contribute to the advancement of science and society.
