Abstract

The 3B’s Research Group, in the next period, will continue to promote scientific research in advanced topics in biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, nanomedicine and stem cells, aiming to reinforce its international leadership in some of those areas. To achieve these objectives, the following strategy will be implemented: - maintain its talented and skilled multidisciplinary research team, keeping it constantly motivated and committed (also by increasing tenured positions)with the scientific strategy and its implementation, through a solid and effective leadership structure; - attract additional talented and highly qualified researchers, creating conditions for their establishment and for the development of successful scientific carriers, through international calls based on absolute merit criteria and matching the real needs of development of 3B’s plan of activities in the next period; - support and expand its laboratory facilities and research equipment to ensure the excellent conditions to develop internationally competitive research activities and generate relevant research outputs; - organize research activities around the 3 existing topic research lines: Advanced Biomaterials, Biomimetics and Nanomedicine; Tissue Engineering, Regenerative and Precision Medicine; Stem Cell Technologies and Engineered 3D Tissue/disease models; - Support a strong interface with the Association of public utility A4TEC, the EXPERTISSUES EEIG (leaded by 3B’s) in addition to the 2 spin-offs it created and are operating in AvePark. The strategy above will continue to be supported with the following additional axis: - nurturing collaborative long-term strategic partnerships established with groups from major universities/institutes in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America, as well as with healthcare institutions in our region and from around the World; - focusing in protecting the intellectual property developed and that is capable of being translated into high added value products and services; - provide training activities to undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals; - keep the educational offer in the ongoing programs coordinated or participated by 3B´s at the Master and PhD level; - maintain a leading role in organizing cutting-edge conferences on the 3B’s main scientific areas of activity and expertise. These initiatives aim to attract the world leaders in the respective field; - have all research publications and thesis publicly available, in accordance with the Open Science initiative, in the Repositorium of the Univ. of Minho; - reinforce further the 3B´s commitment to the dissemination and creation of scientific awareness and public perception of the relevance of science, research and innovation; - 3B´s know-how and core facilities will be made available and will provide services to help strengthen the dialogue academia/industry, thus contributing to generate new ideas and products in different sectors.
