Abstract

CLUNL's strategic plan for 2025-2029 encompasses a multifaceted approach to research, training, internationalization, service provision, and fundraising efforts, in alignment with SDGs 3, 4, 5, 10, and 16.Leveraging our past achievements, our primary objective is to sustain and enhance the quality of our ongoing endeavours while venturing into new avenues of research. Our commitment to fundamental research and resource development in lexicology, lexicography, and terminology, including computational lexicography, remains steadfast. Through the integration of knowledge from these fields and ICT domains, we strive to contribute to the development of new lexicon models and encoding frameworks. Our efforts to enhance LLMs will catalyse multidisciplinary research and innovation, exemplified by our ongoing international project applications. We will lead research focusing on strengthening pluricentric Portuguese by addressing culturally specific linguistic variations. Our commitment to promoting science for all extends to literacy development, especially in health communication, through initiatives like HEREDITARY project. The continuation of the iRead4Skills project, aimed at developing an intelligent system for complexity analysis to bolster reading skills, underscores our dedication to innovation. Simultaneously, we aim to contribute to advanced training profiles such as the ERASMUS MUNDUS Joint Master's Degree in Linguistic Data Science. Collaborating with national and international teams, CLUNL will advance knowledge in language acquisition across diverse settings. From monolingual to bilingual development, our research will probe the interplay between language acquisition, individual differences, and social contexts. We also aim to identify early predictors of written and reading skills, with a particular focus on Portuguese L2/Foreign Language teaching and learning. Embracing open science principles, we are committed to sharing corpora of early written and oral narratives (PIPALE; RECONTO) to enrich research on language development and inform pedagogical practices. Research into grammar and text, one of CLUNL's distinctive features, will continue. The dialectic between texts/discourses and linguistic stabilizations will be addressed by consolidating ongoing projects (DiTo and Redgram) and developing issues on gender-fair language and gender stereotypes. Contributing to developing linguistic knowledge, we also aim to provide educational and linguistic revision resources in open access. Throughout the coming years, CLUNL will host and support both existing and new lines of research, will continue to disseminate and transfer knowledge and will nurture and support young researchers. By embracing interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting open science, and fostering inclusivity, we are poised to effect transformative change in linguistic research and education, both locally and globally.
