Abstract
CENTRE BIO R&D Unit is managed and hosted in Association BLC3 – Campus of Technology and Innovation (BLC3). BLC3 is a non-profit association, with the label Centre of Technology and Innovation recognized by ANI. BLC3 began its activity in 2011, headquartered in Oliveira do Hospital, with 1 physical North delegation (Macedo de Cavaleiros and Alfandega da Fé) and 1 virtual delegation in the Alentejo region.
Its name and brand - BLC3 - derived from the junction of two technological platforms associated with two important biological resources (BLC of lignocellulosic biomass, the most abundant biological resource on the planet and most undervalued in Portugal, enabling the creation of over 3000 different products; and 3, for 3rd generation of biomass, associated with microalgae).
BLC3 ACTIVITIES:
1. Research/technological intensification of excellence, encompassing the complete cycle of invention (from the idea to the market);
2. Incubation of ideas and companies;
3. Support to the socio-economic fabric; and
4. Development of the Bioeconomy and Circular Economy (CE) themes, with a focus on the concepts of Biorefineries.
BLC3 ACTIVITY STRUCTURE
BLC3 has developed a structure that ensures the development of the complete invention cycle, from the birth of ideas to their placement on the market. At its technology and innovation campus there is an operational structure consisting of four Modules (M):
M1.R&TD Centre: main module where the research and technological development activities are carried out (Centre Bio R&D Unit headquarters);
M2. Support Centre for Innovative Projects and Ideas;
M3. Incubator | BLC3; and
M4. Business Hosting Centre.
CENTRE BIO has the MISSION of International Reference in the field of Bio and Circular Economy, attracting Youth and Critical Mass and promote the fixation of new industries In the Inner Regions based on an activity plan for 2025-2029 that will contributeto:
(1) the transfer of knowledge and technology to market with high competitiveness at international level;
(2) the orientation of research activities to market and with high-level scientific impact;
(3) the establishment of an R&D international reference in the field of Bio and Circular Economy, contributing for the constructed Lavoisier Ecosystem; and
(4) the valorisation of potential and resources of the hosting region.
CENTRE BIO R&D Unit is focused on the field of BIOECONOMY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY.
The MAIN AREAS of activity in CENTRE BIO are divided into vertical and transversal areas:
Vertical (V) R&D Units:
V1. Citizenship;
V2. Solutions Based on Nature and Territory;
V3. Energy and Environment; and
V4. Forest and Agrifood.
Transversal (T) R&D Units:
T1. Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Smart Regions;
T2. Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment; and
T3. Technological Scale Up and Industrialisation.
