Abstract

DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte's (DC) strategic plan (SP) aims to advance the knowledge and understanding of the transformations of contemporary society in a context of climate change and digital transition. Inter- and transdisciplinary methodologies will be founded on descriptive, normative and prospective approaches, considering the consequences of those transitions. For 2025-2029, the DC is strategically placed to benefit from its accumulated knowledge and skills to produce fundamental and applied research, with the aim of creating economic opportunities, reducing social inequality, promoting territorial cohesion and improving sustainable livelihoods. In line with the strategic goals set out by each of the research groups (RGs), the DC seeks to substantially improve knowledge on socioeconomic and territorial change, paying particular attention to the following contemporary themes: i. Socioeconomic and ecological impacts of climate change and digital transitions. ii. Regulation and governance in a situation of polycrises. iii. Job quality, labour market solidarity and employment policies in times of spreading inequalities. iv. Historical and post-colonial perspectives for decoding the social production of space. v. Housing dynamics and their socioeconomic and urban effects. vi. Cultural and creative ecosystems as manifestations of hybrid and marginal structures. The implementation of the SP involves the internationalisation of research and outcomes dissemination, through differentiated strategies and support to researchers as they engage in international research projects and initiatives. The hiring of early-career researchers and funding for hot themes aim to retain talent, foster innovation and improve links between education and research. A new doctoral programme in ‘Transdisciplinary Studies on Change’, will be added to the five PhD programmes already offered by the Unit. The SP also intends to create appropriate research environments for master’s students from 14 Iscte programmes related with the DC scientific culture. The SP includes the creation of two new observatories - ‘City-Region Transitions’ and ‘Housing in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area’ - to be added to the existing Youth Employment Observatory, reinforcing the production of innovative knowledge with direct societal relevance. Dissemination among academic circles and with a wider audience is at the heart of the SP, which is committed to reaching out to people from different contexts, to creating impacts in academia and society as a whole, and fostering collaborations in the DC’s fields of expertise. The DC is actively engaged in reducing precariousness and dignifying the work of researchers, by using FCT-Tenure co-funding. DC plans to hire specialised science managers to provide support for the activities related to the research strategy, including its observatories.
