Abstract

CIAUD operates within the Strategic Guidelines for 2024-2028, providing a roadmap for the upcoming funding period through five pillars ( https://ciaud.fa.ulisboa.pt/index.php/en/ ). CIAUD’s strategic pillar 1 focuses on investing in research excellence. To enhance competitive R&D, CIAUD plans to maintain an annual investment in embryo-projects for 2025-2029, and to foster new exploratory and scientific research and technological development projects, boosting large-scale funding at the European level. Enhancing ISI/Scopus open access indexed scientific publications with pertinent citations remains a priority, as well as open access books with effective impact in public administration, companies, and relevant professional sectors. CIAUD spearheads the open access bookseries ‘Project Thinking on Design’ with Taylor & Francis, with the first five books slated for publication in 2024. CIAUD aims to bolster patent and prototypes development and engage in various knowledge transfer initiatives, including a new Experimental Architecture Prototype Lab. CIAUD's guidance for internationalization (strategic pillar 2) involves increasing participation in international associations; organizing reference international conferences; implementing incoming (key experts) andoutgoing knowledge exchange missions; and implementing knowledge exchange missions to Lusophone countries. The societal impact of CIAUD (strategic pillar 3) revolves around developing partnerships for applied R&D with institutions, industrial companies, and municipalities, and prioritizing consistent external digital communication. Strategic pillar 4 focuses on enhancing CIAUD's internal organization for competitiveness, efficiency, and transparency. The formative, cohesive, supportive, and responsible CIAUD (strategic pillar 5) supports Architecture, Urbanism, and Design PhD programs at FA.ULisboa, emphasizing gender equality. This strategy positions CIAUD to make key contributions to knowledge in 2025-2029, e.g.: - Exploring the transformative potential of immersive technologies across various domains. - Developing methodologies on ‘research by design’. - Investigating vernacular architecture within contemporary paradigms. - Strengthening knowledge exchange with Lusophone countries. - Expanding international networks in Design research. - Affirming R&D in typography. - Advancing research in digital documentation and architectural conservation. - Completing the morphological atlas of the Portuguese city. - Developing a platform for territorial analysis in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. The project ‘For an Architectural Memory’ is particularly noteworthy, aiming to collect, digitize and study legacies of professionals in Portugal from the 20th and 21st centuries. Building upon this strategy, CIAUD aims to nurture talent and foster innovation, promoting excellence in science and supporting the resolution of societal problems.
