Abstract
The Research Institute for Medicines (iMed.ULisboa) strives to pioneer the discovery of innovative medicines and cutting-edge technologies to advance health care. Recent advances in biology have enabled a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of human diseases, leading to an impressive transformation in drug discovery and development, enabling new therapeutic modalities and technologies beyond traditional small molecules and biologics, bringing healthcare closer to personalized medicine. Through collaborative research and a commitment to scientific excellence, we will strive to develop novel therapies that address unmet patient needs using a multidisciplinary approach firmly rooted in the chemical, biological, computational and pharmaceutical sciences. Over the 2025-29period, more than 120 PhD students and 110 integrated PhD researchers, organised in 33 laboratories and 3 thematic areas (research hubs), will help shaping this new therapeutic landscape by developing advanced drug modalities and technologies to tackle human diseases. These efforts will be fostered by a highly collaborative environment involving scientific, technological, and translational hubs at iMed and will be supported by an extensive network of national and international scientific collaborations, as well as strong partnerships with industry, hospitals, clinicians, and patient organizations.
