Abstract

In the next years, CONSTRUCT will continue to develop research on SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION, BUILDINGS and INFRASTRUCTURES, according to the following 4 Thematic Lines: TL1- New construction materials. Recycling and valorisation The scientific activity developed within TL1 will focus on: • Geosynthetics for sustainable development • Construction and Demolition Waste as recycled aggregates • Alkaline cements and prefabricated products using waste materials • Cementitious materials compatible with the digitalization and industrialization of construction TL2- Structural performance and heritage preservation As European countries face the need to develop innovative structural concepts for new and ageing constructions, namely to address the impacts of earthquakes and climate change, TL2 will focus on: • Life-cycle performance and resilience of new and existing structures • Risk management and climate adaptation of built heritage • Earthquake engineering • Performance of innovative and pre-fabricated structural systems • Behaviour and safety of geotechnical structures and tailings storage facilities TL3- Building(s) for future generations The new approach to both building procedures and performance follows 4 axes: • Processes& Management for Innovative Construction by rethinking the management of the entire value chain • Digital building(s): Developments on Next-generation BIM and Digital Twins; building performance monitoring and 3D printing of Eco components • Built for life: More evolutionary and durable building solutions, acting mainly in life cycle and building management strategies • Built for people: a people-centric development of buildings with low-carbon approaches TL4- Transport and renewable energy infrastructures TL4 aims to contribute to a sustainable transition of transport and energy systems through research on the following axes: SHM, transport and energy infrastructures. This involves the development of new instrumentation and algorithms for the detection of damage to be applied in data processing related to both transport and energy infrastructures, covering the foundation and superstructure. Important targets: increase of applications to EU projects, expansion of international networking, application to new international MSc and PhD programs, strong coordination with the doctoral program, organization of prestigious international conferences, development of applied research aligned with the industry needs or EU programs, development of new relevant consultancy projects, creation of data digital repositories and publication in open science journals, talent retention and integration into permanent career positions, cooperation with other R&D units, and dissemination and communication of scientific and technological culture.
