Abstract
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is one of the most important medical imaging modalities, particularly in oncology, with the capability to produce 3D images of radiotracer biodistribution within an organism. This functional imaging modality can be combined with another one that provides morphological images, like Computed Tomography (CT). PET imaging can benefit from the integration of CT because adding the morphological information eases the identification of the body structures with higher radiotracer uptake and allows the use of the subject attenuation map as an input correction factor for the PET image.
This work project aims to implement a CT approach in a micro-PET system, the easyPET.3D, providing a simple and cost-effective hybrid imaging PET/CT system into the market, within the framework of the project PTDC/EMD-EMD/2140/2020, funded by FCT. The final goal of this system is to perform in-vivo imaging using mice or rats.
