Abstract

Chronic cough has a significant impact on people with interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), affecting up to 8 out of 10 individuals and leading to decreased quality of life, social costs, and morbidity. However, effective cough management is challenging due to the lack of objective assessments and effective treatments with few adverse effects. This project seeks to address these gaps by partnering with an innovative high-tech company to validate a device for objective cough assessment (C-mo) and conduct a randomized control trial to investigate the effectiveness of a non-pharmacological cough control therapy in people with ILD. This intervention has proven effective in reducing cough symptoms and has no adverse effects, but has not been tested in those with ILD. Outcomes from this study will provide clinicians and scientists with a valuable tool for cough assessment and a promising treatment option to alleviate the burden of chronic cough in people with ILD.
